Curaçao is an amazing destination year-round, thanks to its constant tropical climate. The temperature typically fluctuates between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius, meaning you can always enjoy warm weather. However, there are a few factors to consider when planning your vacation to Curaçao.

Hi, we are Frank and Femmie!
We live in Curacao and run our small-scale adults-only resort here. We like to share our favorite insider tips, away from the crowd.

Climate

The period from December to April is generally considered the best time to visit Curaçao, as the weather is less rainy and the humidity is relatively low. This is also the peak tourist season, so it can be busier, and accommodation and flight prices might be slightly higher.

Rainy season

Most rainfall occurs in October, November, and December, though the showers are typically short and intense. Rain can also occur in the months surrounding this period.

Advantages during this period:

  • The island is lush and full of flowers.
  • Flights tend to be relatively cheaper in October and November.
  • It’s more often cloudy, which is quite pleasant given the tropical climate.

Disadvantages during this period:

  • There are many mosquitoes.
  • December is a very expensive month to fly due to Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.

Dry season

The dry season lasts the rest of the year. In January, the weather is a bit cooler, with daytime temperatures of 28-29°C and 25-26°C at night. However, there are still days with temperatures reaching 32°C, and some rain is possible. Many island residents consider January the best month to visit, making it the best time for a Curaçao getaway.

During the dry season, the weather remains almost constant. The hurricane season lasts from June to November, but hurricanes are rare in Curaçao (the last one was in 1877). Hurricanes can still impact the island by pulling away the wind, making it feel less breezy and warmer. This only happens when an actual hurricane is near, so not throughout the entire June-November period.

Events on Curaçao

Curaçao offers a vibrant atmosphere filled with festive events throughout the year. If you’re looking for the best time to visit Curaçao, it’s good to know about the events happening during your stay. Here’s a list of some must-see events:

Fuikdag

Fuikdag is a celebration on the water, held on the first Sunday of the year at Fuik Bay. It’s a large floating music festival accessible only by boat. You can join in on anything that floats: air mattresses, inner tubes, small boats, large yachts. It’s a major event where you can board for a price and enjoy a fantastic party! Definitely worth experiencing this unique celebration once in your life!

Carnival

Carnival season begins in mid-January with the election of the Prince & Pancho. A ‘queen’ is also chosen, for children, teens, and adults. The rules for this process are strict. At the same time, the Tumba Festival starts, where different bands compete for the best carnival song. The festival lasts a week, and the winning Tumba song will be heard during all the parades. Then there are the parades! There’s a children’s parade, a teen parade, and the grand parade for adults. The adults parade at least three times, one of them near Casa Bohemian Curaçao, in Bandabou. The Gran Marcha, a 6.5 km long parade on Sunday, is followed by an evening parade on Tuesday. The floats, illuminated stands, and dancers make it a stunning spectacle.

Carnival is a huge street party where everyone dances and sings. By mid-March, carnival is over. Did you know the queen even goes to Rotterdam (Netherlands) for the summer carnival?

Dutch King’s Day

Curaçao is part of the Netherlands, so King’s Day is celebrated here as well. The locals are big fans of the royal family and the festivities. There are street markets, performances, and everything is decorated in orange. And all this happens at a pleasant 30°C! It’s an enormous celebration and definitely worth experiencing once.

Christmas and New Year's Eve

These holidays are celebrated in grand style. You’ll find Christmas trees and markets all over the island. Many islanders who no longer live here come back to Curaçao for the holidays. Due to the popularity of this period, flight tickets are more expensive, and you’ll need to book a rental car well in advance. But it’s a fantastic time of year. And let’s be honest: who wouldn’t want to celebrate Christmas in 30°C?

Our recommendation for the best time to visit Curaçao

Curaçao is a top destination all year round. It mainly depends on what you want to experience on the island. If you’re not tied to school holidays, it’s wise to avoid those periods as flights and accommodations tend to be more expensive. The advantage of our adults-only resort is that, even during school holidays, it remains peaceful with just four apartments. Importantly: our prices stay the same year-round!

About us

We are Frank and Femmie, and together with our two cats, Noeki and Charley, we are living our dream in Curaçao. For years, we dreamed of running a small-scale resort on this island, and in 2025, that dream became a reality. Frank lived in Curaçao from 1993 to 2001, working as a diving instructor. During our vacations on the island, the desire to live here only grew stronger. But what would we do? That’s when the idea for our small resort was born.

In 2024, we sold everything in the Netherlands and moved with our cats to Curaçao. On our first day on the island, we saw the resort for sale, and our dream came true. We knew exactly what we wanted. We don’t have children, and although Femmie has worked with children in the Netherlands for years, we decided to create an ‘adults-only’ resort.
